CNRS-UCB International Research Laboratory, IRL2007

Pierre Binétruy Center (Centre Pierre Binétruy) is a International Research Laboratory established by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and the University of California at Berkeley. It is located on the Berkeley Campus and operates since Jan 01, 2020. The Center supports collaborative projects between CNRS and UCB researchers in selected areas of astroparticle and cosmological physics. It is named after the late Pierre Binétruy, a renowned theorist and scientific leader.
The current directors of the Center are prof. Saul Perlmutter (UCB/LBNL) and dr. Radek Stompor (CNRS).

The Center

Pierre Binétruy Center (Centre Pierre Binétruy) is a CNRS-UCB International Research Laboratory and in the CNRS structure the Center is a Unité Mixte International, UMI2007. It is located on Berkeley Campus the University of California and operates since Jan 01, 2020.

Its mission

The Center’s overall mission is to support French-Berkeley collaborations in the area of astroparticle and cosmological physics and in doing so to promote and motivate impactful, original, collaborative research on the highest level.

Its Science

The astrophysical and cosmological observations provide a unique opportunity to study the Universe and to test fundamental laws of physics in conditions so extreme that they can not be (re)produced in terrestrial, human-made laboratories ...

Its projects

The Center aims at developing strong, impactful contributions to specific experimental projects within the four strategic science themes defined for the Center.

Its activities

The plan of activities for 2020 and beyond is under development following the visit of the Ambassador of the French Republic to the United States, M. Philippe Etienne on Jan 14 and first, short term visitors from France.
